Moon Child is a surprising movie. Why, you might ask? First, it stars the Japanese singers Hyde and Gackt, ladies and gents, and they act. Their singing talent is not even used during the movie. Second, it's not as bloody as some might tell you. If you can watch gangster movies, you can watch this just fine.
This film revolves around Kei (Hyde) and Sho (Gackt). I know, not surprising. Anyway, Sho is a street kid along with his brother and a few friends in Malepa, Taiwan. Kei is a self-loathing vampire who is running from his past and his own hunger.
The duo befriend each other after Kei saves Sho's life. Who takes who under their proverbial wing is up to the viewer to decide. Kei is as inexperienced in some things as Sho. Their ambiguous relationship keeps one guessing and adds character interest. I wanted to know these characters and not just because they were beautiful.
Unfortunately, after years of earning a living through robbery, Kei and Sho split. Kei is arrested soon after and discovered for what he truly is. Sho's comrades and friends are gunned down one by one after a job gone wrong.
In the end, Kei and Sho team up and get revenge on the local crime lord who has taken so much. The story does not end there though, dear readers. Just like vampires, it goes on. How far it goes is something you will have to see for yourself.
